Declutter For Summer In Norfolk, VA

by | Aug 15, 2019 | News & Events

Spring is the optimal season for deep cleaning, decluttering and beginning anew at home. Even if you’ve already executed a boss level deep clean to your apartment, these last few weeks of spring make for the best time to declutter and get organized for another summer of fun in Norfolk, VA.

Decluttering doesn’t have to be a full scale Marie Kondo effort. Simply clearing out your spice rack, medicine cabinet, refrigerator and beach bags will get you on the path to seasonal order and clarity. If you’re a plant lover, it’s also the perfect time to make changes to your plant care, upgrade planters and bring a few seasonal plants like aloe vera into your home.

You don’t have to block off days of free time to get your living spaces free and clear for the bright, new season. Take these simple steps to declutter your apartment in just a few hours, and you’ll be well on your way to enjoying another gorgeous summer season in Norfolk, VA!

Spices & Dried Goods
Seasoning and spices you cooked with in winter may not get any use in spring and summer, so take inventory of your spice rack and toss out any old spices (think nutmeg or allspice) that are taking up space. If you have opened bags of flour, beans or rice that are spilling or have gone unused for too long, go ahead and get rid of those, too. The more old and unused products you clear out now, the more room you’ll have for your spring and summer cooking goals.

Plants Revamp
If your green thumb has been up to good work this winter and your plants are growing nicely, it might be time to upgrade your planters for size and drainage. If you have plants that you bring in for winter that like to spend as much of the spring and summer months outdoors, now is the time to take them out and give them fresh air and bright sunshine. Ready to bring some new plants into your home? Now is the best time to stock up on colorful succulents and aloe vera plants, especially.

Medicine Cabinet & Cleaning Supplies
Toss your expired, spoiled medications, sunscreens, chapsticks and makeup products, and while you’re at it, give the shelves inside your medicine cabinet a good wipe down (they tend to get gunky, don’t they?). Get rid of old, leaky cleaners, sponges, mops and rags, and consider picking up a new toilet brush and hand soaps while you’re at it.

Refrigerator & Freezer
It’s time to stock up on fresh produce, frozen fruits and cool popsicles, and that means you’ll need to make room in both your refrigerator and freezer. Toss out old, freezer-burned items from last winter, and do the same with expired condiments, spoiled foods or old containers of leftovers in the fridge.

Beach Bag & Pool Toys
Break out last year’s beach bags and pool toys to determine what items can be reused and what items need to be tossed. Throw away any leftover sunscreens or products you left at the bottom of old beach or pool bags, and if you left towels, goggles or other swimming accessories, make sure to give them a good washing in hot water to remove any mildew, sand or chlorine. If your pool toys are looking lifeless, give them a toss, otherwise, rinse them off in hot water, wipe them down and get them ready to go!
